Volcanoville
Community Fire Safe Plan and Fuels Reduction Project |
|
Project
Description:
Using an initial grant from the U.S. Forest Service, High Sierra RC&D
assisted the El Dorado County community of Volcanoville in developing a
fuels reduction and fire safe plan. Completed
in July 2002, the plan identified a number of community priorities,
including shaded fuel breaks, roadside fuels treatments, staging areas to
assist in evacuation and firefighting access, improved emergency
communications, and improved visibility and access along Volcanoville
Road. A subsequent grant from
the Bureau of Land Management’s Community Based Wildfire Prevention
program will allow the community to begin addressing these needs. |

|
|
|
|
Current
Status:
Community residents and High Sierra RC&D are in the planning phase for
removing roadside fuels, constructing a shaded fuel break and improving
road access and visibility. On-the-ground
work will be initiated during the winter and spring. |
